Abu Dhabi is home to around 432 species of native plants, many of them under threat.
We are responding to this with a range of strategies:
- Establishing key protected areas such as Jebel Hafeet and Marzoum
- Monitoring, analysing and cataloguing the species and their progress, in order to enhance methods of protection and cultivation
- Undertaking experimental and research projects, such as our work with UAE University to develop and strengthen our understanding and the protection of indigenous and medical plants
Main sources of threat: Habitat loss due to climate change, increasing desertification, overuse of land, building development, off-road driving
