The Environment Policy Sector (EPS) ensures that policies and legislations are developed and set for different environmental issues at EAD level and Abu Dhabi Emirate level, in addition to preparing Codes of Practice and Standards.

EPS participates in committees concerned with setting environmental action plans and strategies and coordinates with different related parties to ensure that environmental concepts are incorporated in their policies, strategies and plans developed at Emirate level.

There are three departments in EPS with similar responsibilities but different areas of concern. These departments are responsible for developing environmental policies, each in its own area of expertise, and proposing the appropriate legislations for implementation as well as conducting the appropriate research for implementing the best international practices in policy development.

Environmental Assessment and Auditing Policy Department:
This department participates in the setting of policies and plans relevant to major economic sectors and in issues related to energy and renewables, environment health and safety management systems, and emergency management systems.

Natural Resources Policy Department:
This department participates in the setting of policies and plans relevant to coastal areas, water resources, land use, soil, biodiversity, bird flu and bio-security.

Environment Management and Protection Policy Department:
This department participates in the setting of policies and plans relevant to air quality, climate change, hazardous materials, wastes, sustainability and environmental awareness.
