1972-1975

In 1972, the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- renewed by himself landmarks of construction in Zayed city and Ghayathi. At the same time, he also established an infrastructure and implemented construction projects and housings in Zayed city, Ghayathi, Al Marfah, Baya, Al Seleh, Bedah Al Mutawa, Leoa and Al Ruweis. He also strived to carry out reclamation of agricultural lands in such areas. During few years, such areas turned into orchards that would produce several types of fruits and vegetables. |

He also ordered that fruits, dates and vegetables canning and packing factory in Al Marfah area be established. In addition, he ordered that a road linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai be established. In 1972, he also opened Pepsi Cola Factory in Abu Dhabi.He also ordered that Al Mina project be carried out in 1972. In the same year, he signed an agreement between Al Ain and Consultancy Holder Corporation in Switzerland for Cement Factory in Al Ain city. He also inaugurated Ministry of Water and Electricity building, Waves Breakers situated in Al Mina area and Khalifa bin Zayed road. Above all, he opened traditional housings in Abu Dhabi. |
| In 1973, he issued an order to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in which he explained the following: “The growing demand for vegetables and fruits on the part of population requires achieving agricultural development along with development of all aspects of life witnessed by the country. Of course, we aim at making economy of our country include the agricultural aspect due to certain considerations. In other words, our ultimate objective is to establish agriculture of high quality, efficiency and professionalism in order to meet the needs of agricultural crops for UAE nationals.
In 1973, the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- ordered that Cement Factory be established in Al Ain city when he said, “Part of the solution might be achieved; however, there is no doubt that future requires many things other than this factory.
In fact, the UAE needs further work and we hope that we would meet all our needs through the expertise of our locals and citizens of our Arab nation. We also ask Allah the Almighty to guide us to the right path and achieve happiness for all UAE nationals”.
1976-1979

In 1977, the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- opened Abu Dhabi Fertilizers Factory to get rid of city waste. Drainage projects contributed to making great efforts to preserve environment by means of drainage water treatment, surface water drain, and providing irrigation water through highly efficient drainage treatment, which makes it similar to drinking water. |
| By so doing, this would help the current and future efforts made to enhance tree planting, and spread green areas on the level of Abu Dhabi and western area. At the same time, it already helped in the proper disposal of drainage water. In 1977, he also ordered that infrastructure such as drainage and surface systems equipment and facilities as well as treated water irrigation be established and provided.
In the same year, he also had a tour to Khatm Al Oha, Sih Ghashaba, and Sih Jurf Juan areas during which he followed up the conduct of business relating to the implementation of agricultural projects in Al Ain. He also opened the marine passage surrounding Abu Dhabi and saw Al Defan operations carried out at Al Hudairyat area and connected them together to form an Island linking Abu Dhabi city across the bridge. Above all, he inaugurated ships and fishing boats factory in Al Butain area in Abu Dhabi and strived to provide ship repair equipment and develop its industry. He also paid a visit to Dalma Island and ordered that sweet water be supplied to it where the total quantity of such water reached 150,000 gallons on a daily basis. In addition, he also ordered that 52 traditional housings be built, the hospital be extended and gas liquidation factory be established in Das Island.
In 1977, the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- also saw the lands in Al Khazna area and ordered that the agricultural lands be reformed and wells be dug. He also visited Al Selah area and ordered that 45 farms, 2 schools and one hospital be established. 80 traditional housings were also distributed to UAE nationals. He also visited Zakher area and ordered that agricultural projects be implemented and 100 hectares be reformed as well. Above all, he also ordered that agricultural lands totaling 400 hectares in Al Oha area be reformed where wheat could be grown.
1980-1983
In 1981, the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- issued directives that a ring road around the Island connecting the interior streets network to the Island be built and that (20) 2-storey residential villas be built and distributed to UAE nationals. He ordered that the shipping passage connecting seaport of the industrial area to Al Musafah be opened. In addition, he also ordered that Abu Qashisha Island located in the western part of Abu Dhabi be planted with trees. He also inspected Baya village situated in the western part of Abu Dhabi along with the various facilities completed there. Above all, he also ordered that the necessary agricultural lands be reformed for the purpose of establishing 80 farms containing palm and fruit trees.
1984-1987
In 1985, the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- inspected the landmarks of Abu Al Beedh Island including the citrus, fruits and dates farms. He also ordered that palm and vegetables projects be carried out and distributed to the UAE nationals. Above all, he was also reassured about providing the ground water necessary for agricultural irrigation throughout the year.
1988-1991
In 1988, the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- ordered that 2000 farms be distributed to the UAE nationals in the western region. He also ordered that 1000 hectares be cultivated, wells be drilled, water distribution projects be implemented in the remote areas and bridges for the roads be built with the total cost of AED 549 million. In addition, he also ordered that vegetables canning factory be established in Al Marfah city in order to make use of the large surplus of agricultural production from the western region farms.
In 1989, he ordered that the arable land in Seer Baniyas Island be extended. He also stressed the necessity of developing the agricultural and architectural projects in the Island. Moreover, he ordered that Seer Baniyas Island be transformed to a tourists Island and that 10 mobile electricity and power generation stations be established to face the emergency cases occurring in the remote areas of Abu Dhabi city with the total cost of AED 60 million. In 1990, he ordered that a new residential area be built for the UAE nationals in the western region and he followed up the agricultural projects being carried out in the city at the time.
1996-1999
In 1998, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- inspected the agricultural projects in the western region including Seer Baniyas Island, Ghyiathi and Leoa. He also ordered that arable lands be prepared so that they can be cultivated and distributed to the UAE nationals. He also checked upon the ground water supply necessary for agricultural expansion projects in the future. In 1999, the UAE achieved a resounding success in increasing the green areas due to the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- in the area of combating desertification. In fact, 1800 hectares of green areas and forests in the city of Abu Dhabi were cultivated.
2000-2004
In 2000, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan-May Allah rest his soul in peace- issued 3 amiri decrees regarding distribution of residential lands, agricultural pieces of land and traditional housings to the UAE nationals as well as distribution of 89 residential pieces of land, 200 housings, and 442 agricultural pieces of land.
